Fed up with weak signals, slow data or bundles that cost too much? Good news: you can switch to Onic and keep the number everyone already knows. No new number, no messaging all your contacts.

In this guide, you'll learn the exact steps to convert your number, how long it takes, and what happens to your balance, old SIM and Whatsapp.

We've also added solutions to the problems people run into most. It's much easier than it sounds.

What is Mobile Number Portability and How Does It Work in Pakistan?

Mobile Number Portability (MNP) lets you change your network and keep your current number. You ask your new network, in this case Onic, to bring your number over. Onic sends the request to your old network, which checks that the number is yours and that it can be converted.

What Do You Need Before Porting Your Number to Onic?

Tick off this checklist before you begin, so nothing slows you down halfway:

How to Convert Your Jazz, Zong, Telenor, Ufone or Any Other Pakistani Network to Onic?

Switching to Onic is super simple! Just follow these easy steps:

STEP 1: Check Your Eligibility by Sending "MNP" to 667

From the SIM you want to move, send an SMS with the word MNP to 667. This checks whether your number can be ported to Onic. You'll get a reply, so keep it safe because you'll need it in Step 4.

STEP 2: Place Your Order and Choose "Port In"

STEP 3: Collect Your Onic SIM and Activate It

STEP 4: Forward the Reply From 667 to 76333

From your old SIM, forward the reply you received from 667 to 76333. This completes the conversion. Keep your old SIM in your phone until the switch is done.

How Long Does It Take to Port Your Number to Onic?

It depends on your connection type. Prepaid numbers take up to 4 business days. Postpaid numbers take longer, around 13 to 18 business days. Business days don't include weekends or public holidays, so start early in the week if you're in a hurry.

Will You Keep the Same Number After Switching to Onic?

Yes. That's the whole point of porting. Your number stays exactly the same. Only the network behind it changes, so your friends, family and work contacts can still reach you as before.

What Happens to Your Current Plan and Balance When You Switch?

They stay with your old network, so try to use them up before you port. If you have a large balance, ask your old network if it can be refunded or used another way.

What Happens to Your Old Jazz, Zong, Telenor or Ufone SIM?

Once your number is ported, your old SIM stops working for that number. It won't get calls, SMS or data on it anymore. Don't throw it away until you've activated your Onic SIM and checked that everything works.

After that, you can safely discard it. If you use other numbers on the same old network, those are not affected.

What Happens to Your WhatsApp, Contacts and Accounts After Switching to Onic?

Since your number doesn't change, your WhatsApp account stays the same. Your contacts are saved on your phone or your Google or iCloud account, so they stay too. Banking apps, social media and other accounts linked to your number will keep working as well.

You may be asked to verify with a code, and that code will now arrive on your Onic SIM. Also, expect a short gap in service while the switch happens, so don't plan any important OTP logins for that moment.

Common Problems When Switching Your Number to ONIC and How to Fix Them?

Most people switch without any trouble. If you do hit a snag, these are the most common ones and how to sort them out.

2. I Didn't Get a Reply After Sending "MNP" to 667

3. My Number Is Registered Under Someone Else's CNIC

Porting only works when the number is registered in your name. Get the ownership transferred to your CNIC on your current network first. Because a recent ownership change can block porting, you may need to wait before you apply.

5. I Have No Signal After Activating My Onic SIM

Yes. You can move your Jazz number to Onic and keep it. Just follow the steps above and make sure your number meets the eligibility rules.

Yes. Zong numbers can be ported to Onic in the same way as any other network.

Yes. Telenor users can switch to Onic and keep their number by using the Transfer Number option in the app.

Yes. Ufone numbers can also be ported to Onic using the same process.

5. Can I keep my existing number when switching to Onic?

Yes. Choose "Transfer Number" when ordering and your current number will move to Onic with you.

6. Do I need a new SIM after switching to Onic?

7. Will I lose my existing balance when I switch to Onic?

Your balance and bundles on the old network don't carry over, so it's best to use them before you port.

8. Can I switch to an Onic eSIM instead of a physical SIM?

9. What if my number is registered under someone else's CNIC?

You'll need to get the number transferred to your own CNIC on your current network first. Porting works only for numbers registered in your name.

10. Do I need to visit a franchise to switch to Onic?

No, you don't need a franchise. You place your order and request the transfer through the Onic app. You only need to visit an Onic SIM Pickup Point to complete biometric verification and collect your SIM.

Convert your Jazz, Zong, Telenor or Ufone number to Onic network while keeping the same number. Follow the MNP porting process, and activation steps.

Videos that keep buffering, calls that freeze, and pages that take forever to load are frustrating when you just need your phone to work. If you have ever wondered what 4G LTE really means, this guide is for you.

We will go through what 4G LTE is, how fast it is in Pakistan, where it works best and whether it is still worth using now that 5G has arrived.

By the end, you will know exactly what to expect from your mobile data.

4G LTE is the fourth generation of mobile internet. It connects your phone to the internet through nearby cell towers, much faster than older networks like 3G.

LTE stands for Long Term Evolution, a name that reflects how the technology was designed to keep improving over time.

With it, you can stream videos, make clear video calls, use maps and download apps without long waits. Today it is how most people in Pakistan get online on their phones.

For everyday use, yes. Technically, 4G is a set of speed targets for mobile networks, and the first LTE networks did not fully meet them. They were still so much faster than 3G that companies began calling them 4G.

A later upgrade called LTE Advanced came closer to those targets. So, when your phone shows 4G, LTE, 4G+ or LTE+, it is using the same family of technology. If you see any of these labels, you have a fast and modern connection.

Speed depends on what the technology can do and what you actually get on your phone. Those two numbers are quite different, so it helps to look at both.

Standard LTE can reach download speeds of up to about 100 Mbps. LTE Advanced can go much higher, up to around 1 Gbps, but only with the right network and a compatible phone.

These figures come from ideal test conditions, so think of them as the maximum, not the everyday experience.

What 4G Speeds Do Pakistani Users Actually Experience?

Most users in Pakistan see speeds of roughly 10 to 30 Mbps, depending on the city, the network and the time of day. In areas with a strong signal and less traffic, speeds can be higher. In crowded places or weak signal areas, they can drop well below that.

Even at the lower end, 4G is enough for HD videos, video calls, online classes and browsing without much trouble.

What Affects Your 4G LTE Speed in Pakistan?

A few things decide how fast your connection feels:

When you open an app or website, your phone sends a request through radio waves to the nearest cell tower. The tower passes it along to your network provider's system using fiber cables, and that system connects to the internet and brings the answer back to your phone. All of this happens in a fraction of a second.

LTE is faster than older networks because it uses wider radio channels and smarter ways of packing data into them. Imagine a road with more lanes. More traffic can move at the same time, so everything arrives sooner.

Pakistan's 3G and 4G spectrum auction was held in April 2014, and it opened the door for faster mobile internet. Zong became the first operator to launch 4G LTE later that year, and other operators followed over the next few years. Since then, 4G has grown from a premium option in a few big cities into the main way millions of people get online.

What is the Difference Between 3G and 4G LTE in Pakistan?

The biggest difference is speed. 3G was a big step up from older networks, but it struggles with today's apps, HD videos, and video calls.

A good 4G connection can handle almost everything most people do online:

How Does 4G LTE Coverage Work in Pakistan?

Is 4G LTE Still Worth Using in Pakistan or Should You Switch to 5G?

For most people, 4G LTE is still the right choice. 5G launched in March 2026, but it is only available in selected areas and needs a 5G phone. Outside those areas, your phone simply uses 4G.

4G is also not going away. It remains the backbone of mobile internet in Pakistan, and operators have said they will keep improving it alongside 5G. If your phone supports 5G and you live in a covered area, it is worth trying. Otherwise, a solid 4G connection will meet your daily needs.

LTE stands for Long Term Evolution. It describes a technology built to keep improving over time, which is why it has remained in use for so many years.

In everyday use, yes. Technically, LTE is the technology that delivers 4G speeds, and the two names are used interchangeably on phones and network plans.

Most users see speeds of roughly 10 to 30 Mbps. Your speed depends on your location, signal strength, network traffic and phone.

5. Will 4G LTE still work after 5G launches in Pakistan?

Yes. 5G has started rolling out in selected cities, but 4G continues to work as before. Even 5G phones switch to 4G when 5G is not available, so your connection will not stop working.

If you are planning a trip abroad, sorting out your phone connection is probably on your to do list, right next to visas and packing. Nobody wants to land in a new country and spend the first hour hunting for a SIM shop just to tell their family they have arrived safely.

This guide covers everything a Pakistani traveller needs to know about using an eSIM abroad, from what it is to how to set one up before you leave home.

By the end, you will know which option suits your trip and how to avoid the mistakes that leave people without data on day one.

What is a Travel eSIM and How Does It Work?

There is nothing to collect or lose, and it works alongside your existing Pakistani SIM, so your phone runs two lines at once.

What Are Your Options as a Pakistani Traveller?

When it comes to staying connected overseas, most Pakistani travellers choose from three main options. Each one has its own trade offs depending on how long you are travelling and how much you want to spend.

Option 1: Use Your Pakistani Operator's Roaming Plan

The catch is that roaming rates are usually the most expensive way to get data, and packages can run out quickly with maps, social media, or video calls.

Option 2: Buy an International Travel eSIM

A travel eSIM gives you local or regional data rates without needing to change your number or hunt for a shop after landing. You install it before your trip, and it activates the moment you arrive.

This has become the most popular choice for travellers who want a balance of convenience and cost.

Option 3: Buy a Local Physical SIM on Arrival

You can also buy a SIM card once you land, usually at the airport or a local shop. This can be cheap in some countries, but it means standing in a queue after a long flight, showing ID, and sometimes struggling with the language if the staff don't speak English or Urdu.

Why Use an eSIM for International Travel?

Once you understand how the three options compare, it becomes clear why more travellers are shifting towards eSIMs. Here is what makes them worth considering.

No Need to Queue at the Airport for a SIM Card

You land, turn on data roaming for your eSIM, and you are connected. No searching for a kiosk, no waiting behind other tired travellers, no paperwork.

Keep Your Pakistani Number Active While Abroad

Since the eSIM works as a second line, your original Pakistani number stays active on the same phone. Family and friends can still reach you on WhatsApp or by call without you switching numbers.

Easier to Switch Between Countries on Long Trips

If your trip covers more than one country, some travel eSIMs support regional coverage, meaning you don't need to buy a new SIM every time you cross a border.

More Secure Than a Physical SIM That Can Be Lost or Stolen

A tiny SIM card is easy to misplace, especially when you are juggling bags and boarding passes. An eSIM is installed digitally, so there is nothing physical that can fall out of your phone or get left behind in a hotel room.

Can Pakistanis Use an eSIM When Travelling Abroad?

Yes, Pakistanis can use eSIMs for international travel, and the process is simpler than most people expect. The main thing to check is whether your phone supports the technology.

What Do You Need to Use an International Travel eSIM?

Can You Buy and Install a Travel eSIM Before Leaving Pakistan?

Yes, and this is actually the recommended approach. You can purchase and install the eSIM profile while you are still at home on Wi-Fi, so it is ready to activate the moment you land. This saves you from relying on unfamiliar airport Wi-Fi networks abroad.

How Does a Travel eSIM Work Throughout Your Trip?

The process is straightforward if you follow it in order. Here is what happens at each stage of your journey.

You choose your destination, select a suitable data plan, and install the eSIM profile while connected to Wi-Fi at home. It sits inactive until you reach your destination.

Once you land and turn on data roaming for the eSIM, it connects to a partner network in that country. You should have data within a few minutes, sometimes before you even leave the airport.

Can You Keep Your Pakistani Number and WhatsApp Active While Abroad?

This is one of the biggest concerns for travellers, and thankfully the answer works in your favour.

Will WhatsApp Work With Your Pakistani Number While Travelling?

Yes. WhatsApp is linked to your phone number, not to a specific SIM or network. As long as your phone has an internet connection, through the travel eSIM or hotel Wi-Fi, WhatsApp keeps working exactly as it does at home.

Can You Receive OTPs on Your Pakistani Number Abroad?

Yes, as long as your Pakistani SIM stays in your phone, even without a local balance, most networks will still deliver SMS based OTPs. This is helpful for banking apps and verification codes.

Yes, this is the whole point of an eSIM setup. Your physical Pakistani SIM stays in one slot for calls, texts, and OTPs, while the eSIM handles data. Both stay active on the same phone at once.

How to Set Up a Travel eSIM Before Leaving Pakistan

Setting up your eSIM properly before you fly makes the rest of your trip much smoother. Follow these steps in order.

Step 1: Check Your Phone Supports eSIM and Is Unlocked

Check your phone settings or ask your operator to confirm eSIM support and that your device is unlocked to use a second profile.

Pick a plan based on your destination and how much data you expect to use. If you are visiting more than one country, look for a regional plan that covers all of them.

Step 3: Purchase and Download the eSIM Profile

Buy the plan and install the QR code or profile while connected to Wi-Fi, a day or two before your flight so you have time to fix any issues.

In your phone settings, rename each SIM, for example "Pakistan Number" and "Travel Data", so you don't mix them up later.

Step 5: Set Your Travel eSIM as the Data Line

Go to your mobile data settings and choose the travel eSIM as your default data line, while keeping your Pakistani SIM for calls and texts.

Step 6: Confirm Your Settings After Landing

Can You Use Onic eSIM While Travelling Abroad?

Onic offers eSIM options that Pakistani travellers can use for international trips, giving you a way to get connected abroad without relying purely on roaming charges.

You can set it up the same way as any other travel eSIM, installing it before your flight so it is ready as soon as you land.

Common Travel eSIM Problems and How to Fix Them

Even with a smooth setup, a few small issues can pop up. Here is how to handle the most common ones.

Check that data roaming is switched on for the eSIM line, and try manually selecting a network if the connection doesn't come through right away.

Restart your phone and make sure the eSIM is set as the active data line, since phones sometimes default back to the primary line after a restart.

Check your mobile data settings to confirm which SIM is selected. This usually happens if you didn't set the travel eSIM as default during setup.

Tips for Pakistani Travellers Using an eSIM Abroad

Yes. Any Pakistani traveller with an eSIM compatible, unlocked phone can install and use a travel eSIM in most countries.

2. Can I buy a travel eSIM from Pakistan before my trip?

Yes, you can purchase and install it while still in Pakistan, as long as you have Wi-Fi to download the profile.

3. Will WhatsApp work with a travel eSIM?

Yes, WhatsApp runs on your phone number and works over any internet connection, so it functions normally once your eSIM data is active.

4. Can I receive OTPs on my Pakistani number while abroad?

Yes, as long as your Pakistani SIM remains in your phone, SMS based OTPs generally continue to arrive even without an active local balance.

5. Do travel eSIMs support calls and SMS or just data?

Most travel eSIMs are mainly for data. For calls and texts, you would typically use your Pakistani SIM or an app based service like WhatsApp.

6. Is a travel eSIM cheaper than international roaming?

In most cases, yes. Travel eSIMs are usually priced closer to local rates, while operator roaming packages charge a premium for the same amount of data.

7. Does my phone need to be unlocked to use a travel eSIM abroad?

Yes, so it can accept and run an additional eSIM profile alongside your existing SIM.
